Hawaii Five-0 - Lapa'au

When a plane crashes into the beach with a dead custom agent in the pilot seat Five-0 is called into investigate. The search uncovers a medical marijuana clinic selling to non-licensed users which the agent was surveilling, missing pages from the agent's diary, an unusual smuggling ring, and an exotic poison from a pufferfish.

The raid on the supposed drug ring uncovers a smuggling operation, but no drugs. What they find is evidence of poaching and an animal smuggling ring and expensive exotic holistic cures sold to the highest bidder. Danny (Scott Caan) also makes a new friend by adopting the victim's dog and, much to McGarrett's (Alex O'Loughlin) displeasure, taking him with them on the investigation.

Although it begins with the plane crash and a strong opening, the mystery of the week is actually a little disappointing. However, the show makes up for this in the character interactions, specifically the in-fighting between Danny and McGarrett, fans have to to expect.

The episode is also notable for a guest-appearance by Greg Grunberg (who J.J. Abrams fans will no doubt recognize) as the victim's superior and friend who works with the team to find her killer. Grunberg isn't given much to do, but he's serviceable enough in the role as the concerned friend hoping for justice and does get a couple of scenes with his Heroes co-star Masi Oka.
