Castle - 47 Seconds

Using video recordings and eye witness accounts to catch a killer Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) try to piece together the 47 seconds before the explosion of a bomb that killed five people and left 28 injured at an Occupy Wall Street protest.

Their job is complicated by the FBI taking point on the case, and only sharing part of their information, and the fact that there doesn't appear to be a specific targeted individual the bomber wanted dead. And things get even more complicated during the interrogation of one of the suspects (Walter Perez) when Beckett lets slip her knowledge about her own shooting (which means accidentally admitting to remembering Castle's following confession about his feelings for her) which leads to a rift between the partners.

Even after finding the man who left the backpack bomb in the middle of the plaza the mystery isn't solved as the real culprit, the man whom the pickpocket stole the backpack from, turns out to be one of the victims of the bomb's blast. However, now knowing who was responsible for the bomb, and why, Castle is able to connect the dots and deduce the man's partner (Christine Woods).

I'm not all that happy with the sequence of how Castle learns of Beckett's lie (which I think could have been handled better). However, the fallout of that scene, much like the fallout of the bomb blast and Alexis' (Molly C. Quinn) reaction to the victims, definitely gives us on of the most dramatic episodes of the season. Now that Castle knows the truth, even if he draws the wrong conclusion from Beckett's silence, it will be interesting to see where the show takes the pair in the season's final few episodes.
