Castle - Always

“Every morning I bring you a cup of coffee just so I can see a smile on your face because I think you are the most remarkable, maddening, challenging, frustrating person I’ve ever met.”

The Fourth Season comes to a close as Beckett's (Stana Katic) investigation into the death of a former thief and Army veteran leads to a connection with Roy Montgomery (Ruben Santiago-Hudson) and her mother's murder and Castle (Nathan Fillion) is forced to decide how much to keep from the detective to keep her safe especially after the conspiracy's mystery man (Geoff Pierson) calls Castle strongly suggesting he keep her under control.

The initial suspect in the case is a gang banger (Lobo Sebastian) who hired the thief to break into Montgomery's apartment but DNA evidence found on the scene ties the murder to the same sharpshooter who attempted to kill Detective Becket a year before.

Unable to convince her to drop the case, Castle comes clean about his deal with the mystery man and the growing danger she will find herself in if she chooses to continue, and begs Kate to let this one go before it consumes her. When she refuses he has no choice but to walk away leaving her to open Pandora's Box alone by tracking down the man (Tahmoh Penikett) who came inches away from putting a bullet in her heart.

Not only does Beckett fail to bring in the killer but Captain Gates (Penny Johnson) is furious to learn about Beckett withholding evidence and running the case without her knowledge. She immediately suspends both Kate (Stana Katic) and Esposito (Jon Huertas) leading to Late's resignation. It also leads Beckett to Castle's doorstep in the rain to (finally) admit her true feelings.

In the episode's B-story Alexis (Molly C. Quinn) struggles with her valedictory speech in the days before her graduation. With Alexis off to college, Beckett off the force, Esposito suspended, Ryan (Seamus Dever) responsible for telling Gates, the assassin having tracked down the mystery man and his blackmail and with his sights on the former detective, and Castle and Beckett finally together, next season should open with a bang. Oh, and it's about time you two. Well done.
