Sleepy Hollow - The Midnight Ride

With the blood-tie between Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and the Headless Horsesman (Richard Cetrone) severed, Ichabod heads to a gathering of the Free Masons only to discover each member has been beheaded by the Horseman who has finally risen again to retrieve his missing skull and bring forth the remaining Four Horseman of the Apocalypse. Realizing they can never allow the Horseman to regain possession of his missing head, Abbie (Nicole Beharie) convinces Captain Irving (Orlando Jones) to allow them to destroy the skull, but the Horseman has other plans as the Police Captain finally comes face to torso with the unstoppable Horseman.

Despite coming up with a variety of methods, Ichabod and Abbie find damaging, let alone destroying, the skull to be an impossible task. The pair's futility doesn't stop their pissed-off foe from creating a ghoulish version of the hanging lanterns from Paul Revere's famous midnight ride which offers Ichabod, after complaining about the litany of errors told to school children about the historic event, a code to decipher and a method to capture the Horseman. Meanwhile both Abbie and Morales (Nicholas Gonzalez) receive visits from Andy Brooks (John Cho) whose current allegiance appears to now be in question.

As the episode comes to a close Abbie adds some new age know-how to the old prophecy and helps Crane set a trap for the Horseman whose weakness to sunlight they exploit with UV light. With the Horseman captured, but incapable of being killed, the pair will now have to find the witch mentioned in the Masons' secret journal to imprison the Horseman in a more permanent manner (and without fear of a power outage releasing their foe). From the tease we see, next week's episode will pick up immediately following the Horseman's capture and deal with the dangerous and delicate situation Crane, Abbie, and Irving have gotten themselves into by caging one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
