Castle - The Greater Good

Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) investigate the murder of a Wall Street broker who was secretly working for the U.S. Attorney's Office looking into his company and boss (Kevin Kilner) for breaking several federal laws. The investigation turns up a childhood friend turned gangbanger (Ramon Fernandez) from the victim's past who was helping the broker with a mysterious get-rich scheme involving an empty Swiss Bank Account and a secret transfer of $25,000,000 involving the Venezuelan Consulate he made under the U.S. Attorney's nose that got the man killed.

The case is complicated by the involvement of Captain Gates' (Penny Johnson) estranged sister (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), the U.S. Attorney in charge of the case, who is less than forthcoming about the complete facts of the case. It's further complicated when Gates' team uncovers the fact that her sister's star witness was planning on taking the stolen $25 million and disappearing under a Venezuelan passport leaving the U.S. Attorney with no evidence or case to pursue after months of work including a member (Laurie Fortier) of the U.S. Attorney's office forcing the man into service on trumped-up drug charges he planned on exposing before his departure.

The mystery of the week works well in slowly exposing the victim's odd movements in the hours before his death and the mysterious bank account which he had planned to put to good use in his home country before being killed by the government of his adopted home. This week's B-story involves Beckett and Castle struggling with both a venue for their wedding and the ballooning invite list which isn't helped with Martha's (Susan Sullivan) involvement, but despite their difficulties network's favorite crime-fighting duo manage to work through the list together bringing the show one-step closer to Castle and Beckett's impending wedding.
