Arrow - Unthinkable

Arrow's Second Season, along with the long-brewing battle between Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett), comes to an end with Deathstoke's super-strong army tearing apart Starling City and Amanda Waller's (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) A.R.G.U.S. drones ready to turn the city into sinkhole rather than allow any one of Deathstroke's men to escape. Thankfully there is some good news. Star Labs' cure works on restoring Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) to normal, and Ollie and company receive some much needed back-up by Diggle's (David Ramsey) friend Lyla (Audrey Marie Anderson) as well as Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law) and the League of Assassins brought back to Starling by Sara (Caity Lotz) promise to return to the League should they survive the night.

With Waller's drones on the way to bomb the city back into the Stone Age, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Roy (wearing a mask for the first time), Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne), and the League take down the last of Slade Wilson's soldiers attempting to make their way out of town. But to stop Waller from destroying the city, Diggle and Lyla procure a little extra back-up by breaking Deadshot (Michael Rowe) and the Suicide Squad out of their cells.

To trap Slade, who has already kidnapped Laurel (Katie Cassidy), Ollie is forced to put Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) in danger and set a trap which will put the two men on equal terms for the first time in their lives. Finishing up the island storyline, Ollie's current final battle against Deathstroke is inter-cut with footage of the pair's fight aboard the sinking freighter in which Ollie kills a mentor, looses a friend, and wakes up in Hong Kong with several questions. This time around Ollie goes for cure rather than lethal action leaving Slade trapped in a specially designed maximum security cell located well off the beaten path in familiar surroundings.

Along with wrapping up the series long arc concerning Slade's vendetta and two seasons worth of Ollie's time on the island, and providing an impressive amount of action sequences getting several of the guest and supporting stars in on the fun, the show sets up some major changes for Season Three including teasing both Laurel taking over her sister's role as Canary and a possible Ollie/Felicity romance. Oliver Queen has lost his mother, his fortune, and now his sister as a distraught Thea (Willa Holland) tired of the lies from everyone she knows finally accepts Malcolm Merlyn's (John Barrowman) offer to take her away from her troubles. As it appears next season's flashbacks will be focused on Ollie's time working for Amanda Waller things should continue to get interesting as Arrow completes another chapter in Oliver Queen's journey from rich boy, to survivor, to killer, to vigilante, and now, finally, hero.
