Castle - Clear & Present Danger

Despite getting off to a shaky start this season, "Clear & Present Danger" begins a return to form for Castle that hopefully will continue throughout the rest of the year. Castle (Nathan Fillion) is overjoyed with the latest case involving a pool shark, a shadowy secret government agency, the Devil, and the Invisible Man, but Beckett (Stana Katic) focuses her attention on finding a plausible explanation of just how an invisible attacker killed his victim and attacked both her and Castle as well.

Putting aside the subplot of Castle's disappearance and lingering amnesia, the show gets back to business with Castle and Beckett both on the streets and between the sheets dumping the forced awkwardness that dominated the first two episodes of the new season. Working themselves back into a groove, Beckett and Castle nab a killer (Camille Chen) and discover just how someone becomes invisible to commit murder.

As the show approaches Halloween every year the show's cases tend to get a bit bizarre (vampires, aliens, haunted houses, zombies, and more) and "Clear & Present Danger," despite the Tom Clancy-esque title, certainly fits that trend. Although the B-story reveal allows Esposito (Jon Huertas) to have some fun at his partner's expense, I'm hoping we don't actually get a trip to Ryan's (Seamus Dever) night job which threatens yet another wrong turn for a season just beginning to get back on track.
