Sense8 - Demons

When Riley's (Tuppence Middleton) recent past catches up with her its only her connection to Gorski (Brian J. Smith) that stops the drug dealers from killing her for the stash she disposed of before hopping a plane to London. The pain and shame of her experience also brings Riley into contact with Sun (Doona Bae) who languishes in prison waiting sentencing after assuming responsibility for her brother's embezzlement. Here Sense8 allows the characters not impart either knowledge or physical ability but emotional comfort to a stranger they somehow know better than their closest friends.

Kala (Tina Desai) awakes after fainting during her wedding after seeing Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) to an all-too-understanding fiance (Purab Kohli) and yet another sighting of her "demon" only further conflicting her about her wedding. Lito's (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) life also bleeds into that of Gorski, Wolfgang, and Nomi (Jamie Clayton) during separate workout and sex scenes that quickly merge into an orgy in the various characters minds. After being liberated from the hospital Nomi spends time with Amanita (Freema Agyeman) and Amanita's mother (Maximilienne Ewalt) trying to find answers to what is happening to her. Capheus (Aml Ameen) discovers the true reason Silas (Peter King Nzioki) needs his services have nothing to do with drugs or smuggling but with protecting his most precious resource: his daughter.

Halfway through the season the show continues to be very compartmentalized while barely touching on what this group is to each other and what it could become. The disparate storylines continue to pull the characters in vastly different directions, although we continue to see them connect in small ways through strong emotion such as fear or sadness, loss, loneliness, or in the case of the safe-cracker and bride-to-be an attraction one of them isn't yet willing to owe up to quite yet. Because of the show's slow boil and multiple storylines involving characters making mostly bad decisions (whether forced into them or not) Sense8 continues to be a struggle for me to return to over and over again while never getting the full payoff I need to fully invest in the show. There are glimpses that it may indeed eventually get there. I'm just not sure I have the patience to wait.
