Castle - PhDead

Under the season's contrivance of keeping Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) apart while trying to artificially recapture the feel of the show's earlier seasons, "PhDead" finds Castle using his private detective's licence, along with his fame and money, to weasel in to Beckett's latest case involving the death of a frat boy on a nearby campus. What the latest episode has going for it is Castle and Alexis (Molly C. Quinn) what it lacks are enough moments of husband and wife working together.

Investigation into the death leads Castle to uncover an unauthorized psychological experiment along with the motive for murder. It also allows the PI to spend a little extra time with his wife who, sadly, chooses to keep Castle in the dark about the true reasons for their separation and delve further into her latest investigation searching for William Bracken's (Jack Coleman) silent partner. The effect is a bit of an up-and-down episode that does allow Castle to get crazy on his own, and with Alexis, at times but could certainly use more scenes of the show's leading couple together on-screen.
