Will Eisner's The Spirit #7

Matt Wagner's twelve-issue maxi-series begins the second-half of its run with the Spirit hitting the underworld hard looking for information about the mysterious Mikado Vaas. The more our vigilante learns about the elusive black marketeer the more questions the Spirit has about why he caged on a faraway island for months and what Vaas' plans are for Central City.

After reintroducing himself to Central City's underworld, none of whom are happy about his return, Will Eisner's The Spirit #7 also allows our hero the chance to finally sit down with Ellen Dolan and explain the situation surrounding his disappearance. Disheartened by evidence that suggests Ellen has moved on, it turns out the Spirit had nothing to fear where Ellen's heart is concerned.

Issue #7 may not reveal much about Vaas, other than Ebony White and Sammy Strunk tying the elusive villain to an import/export business, but it does reset the Spirit's relationship with his best gal while also teasing the appearance of a femme fatale to heat things up next month. Worth a look.
