Killjoys - Dutch and the Real Girl

Season Two of Killjoys opens with Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and John (Aaron Ashmore) attempting to mount a rescue mission and retrieve D'Avin (Luke Macfarlane) from Khlyen (Rob Stewart). When their first attempt is unsuccessful, they set out to get the help they need. With the assistance of Pree (Thom Allison) the pair are able to get into the outlaw town of Eulogy in an attempt to find the one piece of tech which will allow Lucy to break through the impenetrable shields of the moon of Arkyn where D'Avin is being experimented on.

In the first twist of the episode, the group find what they are looking for in a heavily-modified human being named Clara (Stephanie Leonidas). After breaking Clara out of Eulogy, the team's new friend agrees to help get them to Arkyn where D'Avin has already begun making his own escape thanks to the episode's second big twist. Presented as half-father and half-monster in the show's First Season, the opening episode of the season suggests Khlyen may not be the big bad wolf Dutch believes him to be. Who does he answer to? What has he been attempting to protect Dutch from since she left his side? Why was Dutch murdering people in D'Avin's memory of Arkyn, and why doesn't she remember? And where does Level 6 and the Black Root fit in? Seems like there's plenty of new mysteries to explore this year.

The extended dream sequence at the beginning of "Dutch and the Real Girl," quickly followed by Dutch's suicidal tendencies, gets the season off to a bit of a shaky start. However, things pick up with the infiltration into Eulogy, Dutch's girl-in-the-box moment, and the introduction of one hell of a new kick-ass character in Clara. Like Lucy, I hope we haven't seen the last of her.
