Once Upon a Time - Where Bluebirds Fly

Zelena (Rebecca Mader) is the star of "Where Bluebirds Fly" as the episode's flashbacks give us a look back to her time in Oz and her friendship with a young boy who would grow up to be the Tin Man (Alex Désert) along with her first encounter with the Cowardly Lion. In Storybrooke, the Black Fairy (Jaime Murray) goads the Wicked Witch into rushing into a foolish mistake. The Zelena's attempt to destroy the fairy unintentionally provide the Black Fairy with enough dark magic to make all her plans come true.

The flashback and current storylines are united through a single object: the Crimson Heart. Unwilling to give up her magic to save her only friend in Oz years ago, this time Zelena makes the sacrifice in order to undo her latest blunder and steal the ill-gotten gains from her enemy. It may have taken her awhile to reach such a moment, but Zelena finally finds the time and place for her first truly selfless heroic action. Her sacrifice leave her without any remaining magic, but it also stalls the Black Fairy's plans and provide the first step to waking the Blue Fairy (Keegan Connor Tracy).

The rest of the episode proves to be mostly filler as the Charming family hunts down a suitable locale for Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook's (Colin O'Donoghue) wedding. Snow's (Ginnifer Goodwin) frustration with David's (Josh Dallas) reluctance to chose a spot forces a confrontation between the pair, and a confession that Charming would prefer his daughter's wedding day break with family tradition and not be marred by the looming threat of a villain's eminent attack. This seems to suggest the wedding is on hold until the end of the season, or possibly beyond. However, in Storybrooke nothing is ever certain.
