Preacher - Sokosha

The Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish) finally tracks Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) down. However, thanks to the show's inconsistencies on how easy and well the cowboy can track it does allow Jesse, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) plenty of time to do a little research (in the public library no less) and discover just who the killer is and what he is after. While there are certainly goofy and highly-coincidental aspects to the episode (the public library sure has lots of resources about a mythological murdering cowboy, and Jesse suddenly knows how to get souls), "Sokosha" is a tense episode which works by finally putting Jesse up against the Saint of Killers and finding a way to beat the cowboy... at least for now.

When they are put in danger, we learn the (rather obvious) identity of Dennis () as Jesse's friends are used as collateral against his promise to deliver the Saint of Killers a soul. The other interesting aspect of the episode is the introduction of the idea that someone can siphon off and sell a percentage of their soul. With the clock ticking, Jesse races across New Orleans until he's left with no other option other than to give the cowboy a percentage of the preacher's own soul. Betraying the cowboy, and not sending him to heaven to be with his family, Jesse instead uses Genesis (which now works on the Saint of Killers as he is no longer soulless) and removes the creature from the playing field... at least for now.
