All of Me
1984's wacky comedy about body swapping stars Lily Tomlin as dying millionaire Edwina Cutwater who plans to have her soul transported to the body of a beautiful young woman (Victoria Tennant) to whom she will bequeath all her wealth. Steve Martin stars as the lawyer who has to somehow make this all legal despite not believing a word of it. The procedure works, however, due to a slight mishap, the soul of Edwina ends up on Roger's body instead of its intended destination. And then hilarity ensues.
A vehicle for Martin to showcase his physical comedy, we see Roger lose control over half of his body to Edwina leading to his life imploding due to his bizarre behavior and Edwina's continued interference. Despite the differences, the pair regularly bicker with Roger being able to see Edwina in a mirror, Roger eventually agrees to help get Edwina into the right body. However, this becomes a bit more difficult now that the young woman, with all of Edwina's money and knowing the procedure actually works, is less enthused about taking part in the ceremony.
While some of the gags in director Carl Reiner's farce work better than others, All of Me succeeds as a loose framework to allow Martin, and to a lesser extent Tomlin (kept off-camera much of the time but whose voice is heard in Roger's mind), to shine. The new Blu-ray includes featurettes, interviews, a still gallery, and audio commentary for the film by historian Joe Ramoni.
