Whatever Happened to Crimson Justice #1
Feature heavy The Dark Knight Returns vibes, the opening issue of Whatever Happened to Crimson Justice introduces us to the world of a retired super-hero starting with a police commissioner and an unanswered Red Alert signal atop the police station used to once signal the city's hero, Crimson Justice. The death of the commissioner, apparently by the hero's archnemesis who also disappeared the same night decades ago, kicks off the issue in which his will reaches out from beyond the grave to contact the alter-ego of the former hero and make a plea for a city that still needs him.
It's almost impossible not to compare this to one of the most famous Batman stories ever told and. It doesn't measure up (but then again, what would). Still, taken for a reimagining of similar events, there is something of interest here and the fact that we don't really get the hero in the first issue makes me wonder what the next issue might bring on how things might unfold in different ways.
