Person of Interest - Legacy

When the machine spits out the number of a young defense attorney (April Hernandez-Castillo) Reese (Jim Caviezel) enlists the help of Detective Carter (Taraji P. Henson) to save the woman's life. Despite her initial reluctance, and being less than thrilled at some of Reese's methods, Carter agrees to help.

Reese and Carter's investigation uncovers a dirty parole officer (Vito D'Ambrosio) and a scam worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Like with the lawyer's latest client (Curtiss Cook), it seems the P.O. frames his single-parent paroles as part of a complicated foster care scam that pays the foster parents not only for the child they take on but several other non-existent foster kids as well.

The amount of money at stake is more than enough to kill for. Despite taking out two men hired to kill the woman Reese is trying to protect the real brains behind the operation (Alex Cranmer) is someone no one expects.

The episode's B-story involves Finch (Michael Emerson) reconnecting with the son (Michael Stahl-David) of his former partner (Brett Cullen) who has all kinds of questions about the work his father did before his death. Unwilling to get Finch to share this part of his life, Reese gives Fusco (Kevin Chapman) a new responsibility - to get Reese answers.

The addition of Carter to the team, Fusco's new assignment, and the wild card of the son of Finch's partner are an interesting way to shake up the mix with the regular number of the week. We'll have to wait to see how each of these stories plays out in the coming weeks.
