Person of Interest - Bury the Lede

Reese (Jim Caviezel) has to find a way to protect the life of investigative journalist Maxine Angelis (Gloria Votsis) who is threatening to destroy a crooked politician and has taken an interest in HR, especially now that Special Agent Donnelly (Brennan Brown) and the FBI are rounding up members of the rogue police force, thanks in large part to Fusco's (Kevin Chapman) help behind the scenes,  and trying to flush out Simmons (Robert John Burke) and the group's mysterious boss who may or may not be the son (John Ventimiglia) of a famous mob boss.

The challenge in protecting the reporter, besides the obvious danger she puts herself in to get her stories, is the fact that another of her pet projects is searching for the identity of the mythical "man in the suit" who has been delivering his own brand of justice around New York over the past year. With Carter (Taraji P. Henson) and Fusco chasing down HR leads, Reese tries to protect Maxine as Finch (Michael Emerson) transforms the former assassin into the reporter's perfect online dating match. Realizing Reese's trouble in selling himself as the man Finch created on the computer screen Finch calls in the assistance of an old friend - Zoe Morgan (Paige Turco).

When Maxine's story turns out to be false and the honest business man the FBI never saw as a legitimate candidate for the head of HR turns up dead she must face the fact tht her exclusive actually helped keep the real boss hidden and got an innocent man killed. Meanwhile Fusco finds himself squeezed by both Reese and Simmons who both want the corrupt cop's help where the true head of HR is concerned.

Believing that one of the candidates running for office (Kevin Collins) is the real head of HR, Reese and Maxine go looking for the missing ledger the victim had planned to turn over to the FBI before his death. Reese is able to wrap-up the case and protect the reporter's life, who let's him down easy, without giving away his real job. I would love to see Votsis become another of the show's recurring characters like Turco, although this would mean the reporter uncovering Reese's secret. As the episode comes to a close, as Finch suspects, we see the noose the FBI tighten failed to grab the true boss of HR (Clarke Peters) leaving plenty of future problems for Reese to deal with.
