Naked Ambition
With access to numerous photographs and interviews from her family and friends, along with those inspired by her career, directors Dennis Scholl and Kareem Tabsch take a look back at the life of pin-up girl turned photographer Bunny Yeager. While still modeling, Yeager became quickly sought after for her work behind the camera where she made a name for herself capturing more natural and active poses of her models often outdoors in natural light.
The photos she took of longtime friend Maria Stinger helped get her career off the ground but the mainstream images of then underground model Bettie Page launched both into the limelight. Covering both her public and private life, among the interviews we get are those from both of Yeager's daughters with distinctly different opinions of their mother's work and legacy. We notably also get Larry King (who knew Yeager in Miami) and Dita Von Teese who was inspired by the collaborations between Yeager and Page.
The documentary is a celebration of Yeager's work and the cheesecake photography that became synonymous with her name. While staying mainly on the topic of her career and legacy, the film also touches on the rougher patches of her life including the suicide of her husband and her need for reinvention when her work became too safe compared to the more explicit porn of the 70s before coming back into prominence near the end of her life.
