The Flash - True Colors

The return of an old acquaintance who questions Ralph's (Devon Graye) ability to go straight has the unintended consequence of helping the Elongated Man discover a new power to alter his rubbery physique to temporarily duplicate the appearance of others. Meanwhile Barry (Grant Gustin) is locked in Warden Wolfe's (Richard Brooks) secret meta-human prison and offered up with its other inmates to Amunet Black (Katee Sackhoff) in order to be sold to the highest bidder. Queued into the scheme thanks to Cecile's (Danielle Nicolet) temporary psychic powers, and with the help of Ralph's new powers, Team Flash works on a plan to save its leader (who is working on his own escape with the help of his fellow inmates).

While neither escape plan is ultimately successful, there's plenty of tension here (along with the episode disposing of nearly everyone who learns the Flash's secret identity in a flash, so to speak). The return of DeVoe who absorbs the powers of more of the bus meta-humans and takes control of a new form, while also missing out how events would unfold to allow for Barry's release from prison (thanks, Ralph), continue to showcase the strengths and weaknesses of the season's primary villain. It's obvious to even his loyal wife (Kim Engelbrecht) that with each stage of his plan the villain is becoming less human, although he chooses to control rather than kill her making me wonder if there is still a human weakness to be mined in that relationship that may ultimately help lead to DeVoe's downfall.
