Murder in a Small Town - Strangers Among Us
Although the mystery of the week is relatively simple in "Strangers Among Us," surrounding a shooting, there are quite a few pieces at play in the episode including a bullied teenager (Jaden Rain) who winds up with the murder weapon leading to child (Roman Kinsella) in a standoff with the police, an unsolved homicide, relationship drama for Laila (Bethany Brown), the resources of the department being stretched thin, and Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk) uncovering a possible connection that might reveal a larger mystery to be delved into later in the season.
While the subplot that spins out of the attempted murder involving the two Foster kids is certainly the most memorable, and tragic (as the bully who put events in motion is the only one not to face consequences), part of the episode, Cassandra's discovery is likely to have the the largest impact on the season. Is there a serial killer that has been active in the area for decades, and would there be a worse time to make the discovery than with Karl (Rossif Sutherland) and his department already maxed out covering the current crimes popping up in the sleepy coastal town?
