CIA - Directed Energy

Running out of ways to spinoff their FBI franchise, CBS turns to a new series focused on FBI Agent Bill Goodman (Nick Gehlfuss) assigned to be the liaison with a covert CIA team led by the far less by-the-book Colin Glass (Tom Ellis) working domestically to prevent terrorist attacks. Featuring a cameo by Jeremy Sisto to confirm everything fits into the same shared world as the FBI shows, the premiere provides the basics in highlighting the kinds of operations the CIA is tasked with and the struggle Goodman has initially with Glass and his way of doing things.

While going a bit overboard in setting up Glass as the super-agent with a heart of gold who colors outside the lines whenever it suits him, "Directed Energy" allows for the pair's first case involving stolen technology that could be used as an energy weapon capable of knocking planes out of the sky which was unintentionally let into the wild by one of Glass' (Christian Gnecco Quintero) assets.

To no big surprise, everything works out in the end, although "Directed Energy" does close with an added assignment for Goodman in sniffing out a mole within the covert CIA team (which will no doubt provide and excuse for him to get to know the other members of the team better, highlighting each character for the audience).
