Day One - Samuel
The first episode of Day One introduces us to Ulises (Álex González) who has lived in seclusion for the better part of a decade following the death of his sister. Out of the blue, he's contacted by his old programming partner Samuel (Asier Etxeandia) who has discovered something dark at the heart of tech billionaire Diskin's (Jordi Mollà) next release. Uncovering the dangerous truth about the product that might put millions in jeopardy, Samuel reconnects with Ulises but is killed before the details can be explained leaving the programmer on the run both from the police (who mistakenly believe him to be responsible for Samuel), Diskin and his agents, and the assassin (Renata Notni) who killed Samuel whose true allegiance has yet to be determined.
Day One presents a conspiracy built up basic ideas of uncheck technology and the greed of wealthy businessmen. For Ulises to survive, and discover the truth, he'll need to stay one-step ahead of all who are after him. We also get a young programmer named Rebecca played by Alba Planas who has a run-in with Ulises at the universe, and a meeting with Diskin, who despite only wanting to do a social post about a personal milestone has now be dragged into the conspiracy.
It's the women who initially capture your interest in the first episode with Diskin coming off as a cross between Steve Jobs and a Bond villain and Ulises a bit bland. My initial interest in the series came from the inclusion of Zorro's Renata Notni as our assassin who has a smaller role than I hoped but a large enough one to also explore her home life so here's hoping there's more to come. I also quite enjoyed Melina Matthews as Ulises old friend who provides him some comfort and advice after his world falls apart once more. And as for Planas, so far her character has just been in the wrong place at the wrong time but perhaps once aware of what is happening we'll see what she is capable of.
