MacGyver - Trumbo's World

MacGyver Monday takes us back to another adventure featuring science-adventurer Angus MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) who goes deep into the Amazon jungle with his old friend Charlie (Peter Jurasik) to investigate what unusual event is affecting the animals of the region. Deep in the jungle they find both the cause of the animals' flight and a plantation owned by a driven man named Trumbo (David Ackroyd).

Unable to recreate the sheer number of swarming ants destroying everything in their path, the episode uses lots and lots of stock footage (not all of which includes the correct types of ants). We do get some close up the ants attacking Charlie and later MacGyver in his last-ditch effort to save Trumbo's plantation.

Trumbo's an interesting character who the episode teases twice as a potential villain (both first when encountering MacGyver and later in his attempt to prevent the local workers from fleeing). However unreasonable at times, Trumbo turns out to be simply a man attempting to protect his home which, with a variety of means such as homemade dynamite and a homemade flamethrower, MacGyver is able to help him achieve.
