Luther - Series Three, Episode Two

As Gray (Nikki Amuka-Bird) and Stark (David O’Hara) continue trying to find the proof needed to take DCI John Luther (Idris Elba) down, Ripley (Warren Brown) refuses to let a murderer (Lucian Msamati) go free, and Luther focuses his attention on finding the city's new serial killer (Kevin Fuller) and the evil creature (Ned Dennehy) holed up in a nursing home whose own murders years ago spawned him.

Although Ripley finally agrees to go on the record with Gray and Stark what he tells the detectives is far from the dirt they are looking for and when Luther shows up in base of their covert operation to make off with the all the evidence they had acquired Gray and Stark find themselves back at square one. Luther notches another victory by finding the connection between the old murders and the new ones by discovering the young son of one of the 80s murders was a witness which warped the young man years later into becoming the elder killer's apprentice.

Although the romance is still in the early days, there's a definite attraction between Luther and Mary Day (Sienna Guillory) as the pair beginning spending more time together. With a pair of big wins under his belt and his enemies stymied, Luther is reading high, but knowing the show's penchant for dark turns I wouldn't expect it to last as the remaining two episodes of the Third Series promise trouble for the new lovebirds, the deepening of Stark and Gray's obsession, and the return of Luther's favorite sociopath Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson).
