Murder, She Wrote - Funeral at Fifty-Mile
Murder Mystery Monday takes us back to the most famous mystery writer of Cabot Cove. There are times you can really feel an Agathe Christie influence in Murder, She Wrote, and "Funeral at Fifty-Mile" certainly qualifies. In Wyoming to attend the death of an old friend, Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) stumbles on another murder of a man who seemingly everyone had a reason to kill but few had the means and opportunity to do so.
The guest-cast includes Cliff Potts as the notably ridiculous Sheriff Ed Potts, envisioning himself as some kind of frontier lawman. The episode also marks the debut of William Windom, but not as the character who would become a regular. Although it lacks the romantic staging of the world's most famous train, there are strong Murder on the Orient Express vibes here, especially once Jessica determines the truth method of murder.
