Detective Comics #1006

When Detective Jim Corrigan is shot and kidnapped, the Spectre reaches out to the world's greatest detective for help. Not always the most subtle of DC's characters, growing 300 feet tall and stalking the streets of Gotham City draws the attention of the Batman.

The Spectre has always been a fringe character that has fascinated me more than most of the characters that fill up the more mystical range of the DCU (with the other exception being Zatanna). Although the logic of his actions seems a bit peculiar here (couldn't he have just materialized where Batman was?), the mystery of just what the odd cult wants with the body of the Spectre's host works well here. Obviously the want something, but what are they after?

Detective Comics #1006 has a throwback feel to a 90s or early 2000s comic book. Batman has a bit more blue in his costume as artist Kyle Hotz seems to be pushing for more of a classic look for the hero that has far too often been stuck in black and grey recently. Worth a look.

[DC, $3.99]
