Supergirl - Deus Lex Machina

While not as successful as "The House of L," "Deus Lex Machina" does use the same structure to present a story from the perspective of Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) to catch viewers up on what the character has been up to behind-the-scenes over the past few months. Beginning with his return after "Crisis," the episode chronicles how the villain has juggled the various threats against him and used Eve (Andrea Brooks) to both ingratiate himself to Leviathan and work for their destruction. While successfully coming out both an ally for Leviathan and hero for stopping them, Lex earns another victory. However, his ego does get in the way where a certain caped hero is concerned.

For the first time since the destruction of their friendship, Lena (Katie McGrath) and Kara are able to share a friendly moment, an intolerable situation that takes Lex off-plan to widen the gap between the former friends again by playing on their distrust of each others motives and use some of the Fortress of Solutide's secrets to his advantage (along with finally acquiring its location). While it's appearance is relatively short-lived, the return of the Sun-Eater reminds viewers just how far Lex is willing to go in order to see his plan succeed (even if that means putting the entire solar system in danger for a simple distraction). It's Lex's ego-driven tirade towards the smitten Eve, however, that may prove to be the larger problem as Lex turns a trusted ally into an unwilling associate (who he tricked into murdering Supergirl's stepfather for no other purpose than to cause the Danvers family pain and gain more leverage over Eve).
