The Book of Boba Fett - The Tribes of Tatooine

"Chapter 2" of The Book of Boba Fett follows the same formula of the first episode offering us the current troubles of Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) attempting to become a crime lord on Tatooine and his time with the Tusken Raiders before reappearing on The Mandalorian. Rather than jump back and forth between the two stories, this time we open with new trouble for Fett as he deals with the captured assassin and faces a challenge to his throne in twin cousins of Jabba who have laid claim to Jabba's territory. A public standoff results in no resolution or bloodshed, but does suggest where the assassins came from and what other dirty tricks the Hutts may come up with.

The more lengthy flashback shows us Boba adapting to his life with the Tuskens, learning their ways, and then proving his value by coming up with a plan to stop spice runners crossing their territory in a hovertrain from taking potshots at them. After acquiring some speeder bikes, Fett instructs the group on how to use them and the attack on the train is successful leading to Fett earning a proper place within the tribe (with the help of a mind lizard and vision quest).

Both parts of the episode touch on similar themes here fleshing out how different societies on Tatooine work. While various novels have spent time exploring the many planets George Lucas created in the original trilogy, neither the shows nor movies have taken a deep dive into the desert planet's politics, tribes, and traditions which is what we're getting in both storylines. Without any sense of time, it's hard to say exactly how much of Boba's time with the Raiders we've seen, but we at least understand how he survived in the desert prior to his reappearance decades after The Return of the Jedi.
