Batgirl #7
Following the apparent death of Shiva in the last issue, Batgirl #7 kicks off a new arc diving into the origins of Cassandra Cain's mother as we launch into the first chapter of "The Book of Shiva" when Cassandra receives both a memoir and recording. If this issue is going to be the template we'll likely get little of Cassandra, who we really only see at the beginning of the issue then stepping away as Shiva's story is told to her through flashbacks.
"Chapter One" gives us an introduction of Shiva's parents (who die rather quickly) while she and her sister Mei make it to a monastery. Jumping forward past the peaceful years, we see the two young women targeted by the same clan which ambushed and killed their parents forcing them to flee the city back into the unknown. Although this offers us some insight in where Shiva began her martial arts training, and where some of her grim determination may have been born, she's still a ways off from the character who will one day be feared across the DCU.
