NCIS: Origins - Cecilia

The First Season finale is a turning point for NCIS: Origins but not for the main story involving a an ambitious MP (Claire Berger) attempting to prove Gibbs (Austin Stowell) killed Pedro Hernandez. We plenty of Gibbs, Franks (Kyle Schmid), Lala (Mariel Molino), and even Randy (Caleb Foote) strategizing how to keep Gibbs out of jail. Eventually Lala puts her own career on the line to keep Gibbs out of danger (and also lays a path for Mace's introduction int NIS). While also teasing a potential full-blown love affair between Gibbs and Lala, the episode teases us with a young girl and her dog which will change the fates of both characters in the season's tragic closing scene.

Lala's death, and not from a suspect or criminal, ends the season on a shocking note which is softened a bit by Gibbs first meeting of the woman who would become his first ex-wife (Kathleen Kenny). The loss of Wheeler (whose suspension goes into effect in this episode) and now Lala, along with Randy learning the truth about Gibbs' time in Mexico, creates a big shakeup necessitating some changes next season. It will be interesting to see how long before Diane becomes a romantic partner for Gibbs (realizing we've got two more wives to get through as well). Molino was one of the strongest members of the cast, and her departure will leave a hole needing to be filled not only with a new character for the team but someone to carry what she brought to the character of Lala/Cecilia (who the episode is named after).
