Oh, Hi!

Never tell a girl you aren't serious about the relationship while chained to the bed. Taking place on the first out-of-town trip of Iris (Molly Gordon, who also co-wrote the film) and Isaac (Logan Lerman), four months into their dating, a basic misunderstanding between the two comes to light after a night of kinky sex. Thanks to some bad advice, and some poor Internet research, and fueled by a desperation to prove he doesn't know what he actually wants, Iris refuses to uncuff Isaac from the bed and attempts to prove that they should stay together. Frustrated and concerned what else an increasingly manic Iris might do, especially after an offhand comment about wanting to stab him, Isaac initially plays along until it becomes obvious that Iris has no intention of letting him go.

The dark comedy by writer/director Sophie Brooks deftly threads the needle of its premise by allowing a true misunderstanding and panic, not some nefariousness from either character, to be the catalyst for all that follows. And what follows proves to be quite entertaining in a kind of 9 to 5 farcical way that undercuts the situation with constant humor that only increases when Iris sends for backup and her best friend (Geraldine Viswanathan) and her boyfriend (John Reynolds) are dragged into the bizarre situation with no solution in sight.

The first twenty minutes of the movie shows us how good a couple the pair are, while still offer glimpses that Isaac may not be as serious as Iris about their relationship. The two are good together. However, one is ready for more of a commitment while the other is not. While Iris believes the trip cements the pair as a couple, Isaac isn't so fast to commit and feels the sudden pressure of Iris' expectations which, to him, seem to come out of the blue. And here, in the miscommunication between the sexes, is where Gordon builds her comedy adding some absurdity to a basic premise that every couple's problems would be easier to solve if they simply listened to each other.
