Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Absolution / Ascension

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s two-part Third Season finale drags out the end of the Hive (Brett Dalton) storyline as Daisy (Chloe Bennet) spends most of that time guilt-ridden in quarantine while her friends work around the clock to prevent Hive from detonating his Inhuman warhead in the upper atmosphere. Hive's attack on S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters forces Daisy into action, first in pleading with the Inhuman creature to take her back and, after realizing that's not possible, doing everything she can to kill it (more because she feels like a spurned lover than any heroic impulse).

As shown multiple times over the season, the end of the season will claim the life of a member of the team. There are no surprises here as its the newest and least important characters whose lives are put in immediate danger over the course of the episode. Ultimately the death of Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) feels far more about Daisy's continued arc than a character's sacrifice to save the woman he loves. Along with Daisy's vision coming to pass, the episodes also include a couple of odd sequences to open and close the two-hour finale. The first, involving Daisy and Coulson (Clark Gregg) on the dead alien world feels out of place and fails to pay off while the awkward epilogue teases what's in store for next season as an attempt to tease "big" changes to fans whose interest may have waned recently.
