Supergirl - Confidence Women

The Leviathan plot takes a step forward with a flashback episode that delves into the friendship of Lena (Katie McGrath) and Andrea Rojas (Julie Gonzalo). "Confidence Women" is overdue in helping to explain why Kara's (Melissa Benoist) deception hurt Lena so profoundly given what happened with Andrea years before. While the magical medallion (which isn't magical?) is a bit goofy, it's existence helps both Supergirl and Lena separately uncover the existence of Leviathan (although neither yet knows anything more than the name). The flashbacks also offer the return of iZombie's Rahul Kohli as Lena's ex-boyfriend Jack Spheer.

The episode also offers a tragic end to Rip Roar (Nick Sagar) at the hands of Leviathan and a second abrupt break in the Lena and Andrea relationship. With the revelation that Andrea's show powers come from her, and not the medallion, it will be interesting to see if she takes any retaliation on Lena (either for personal revenge or at the behest of Leviathan). Because so much of the episode is devoted to Lena and Andrea, "Confidence Women" is also blissfully free of the various subplots involving characters' love lives and family dramas that have taken up too much of the season so far. The return to present shows us Lena's mores sociopathic side which she uses two friendships to her advantage, acquires a bit of knowledge, repays an old debt, and tests out her new mind-control technology on the DEO with great success (something I'm sure Leviathan will be interested in).
