Supergirl - Tremors

Since the introduction of Lena (Katie McGrath) on the show, this is the episode I've been hoping that Supergirl would avoid. More on that in a second, first "Tremors" does introduce us to the inner circle of Leviathan, aliens from another world who have been guiding/controlling the Earth from behind the scenes for thousands of years. The member the episode gives the most time to is Rama Khan (Mitch Pileggi) whose Earth-bending powers mean a trip to the Fortress of Solitude for Kara (Melissa Benoist) and her best bud Lena (who uses the opportunity to steal Myriad, trap Kara in the Fortress, and declare an end to the pair's friendship).

While it seemed inevitable that Lena would eventually be cast as the show's villain, the time spent on developing Lena as far more than just another Luthor, and the show's history of subverting expectations, made me hope that the obvious path wasn't where the show would eventually take the character. Lena's reaction to learning Kara's secret made that possibility all the less likely, and now we have Lena with a dispersal device capable of deploying her mind-control technology. Will Kara take Lena on? Or will she attempt once more to save the friendship that the show's writers have apparently written off?

Relationships play a major role in both the episode's B-stories as J'onn (David Harewood) spends some time talking to his ghost dad, discovers his brother isn't in the Phantom Zone, and (rather than send him back) attempts to repair old wounds. I hope the peace found between the two lasts (mostly because I've tired of this plot line). Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Kelly's (Azie Tesfai relationship hits a stumbling block with Alex getting hurt again and Kelly coming clean about her fears of losing another love to a dangerous job. While the pair have patched things up for now, what happens the next time Alex puts herself in harm's way?
