Legacies - To Whom it May Concern

As Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) begins his journey back to the land of the living, which includes a run-in with the Necromancer (Ben Geurens) inside Malivore, the rest the students have attempted to move on with their lives. Josie (Kaylee Bryant) continues her experiment of attending Mystic Falls High not realizing how much trouble the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted is in trouble by bleeding students following their latest life-and-death battle. In order to keep a large enough student body, they need at least two of the skeptical prospective students to sign-on for the new semester. The sets of the school certainly look empty without the extras moving about, as do those of Josie at Mystic Falls High as the script keeps her from large gatherings which would be problematic during COVID shooting (although the disease itself is never mentioned).

It's a bit unclear where exactly Landon is at the end of the episode as he's apparently escaped Malivore but only to be trapped in some kind of prison world (is he in the artifact pulled from the lake?). His return, and the appearance of the Necromancer, both feel too soon (but the Necromancer appears trapped for now and Landon's journey had the look that it might take multiple episodes to complete). Of the prospective students, two decide to attend, despite Hope's (Danielle Rose Russell) inability to hold it together on the tour and the rest of the students evading any questions about why the school is so empty. Of the two newcomers, Cleo Sowande (Omono Okojie) offers the most interest who is bright and empathic enough to help Hope through a difficult time. The bitchy Gaby (Olivia Rodriguez) is more one-note, although she does offer a friend for Wade (Elijah B. Moore).
