NCIS traces the death of a Marine due to fentanyl due to a crashed plane full of the drug and the missing members of a local tour company with a drug cartel company after them. The episode's plot, which at some moments is one step away from an anti-drug PSA with some of its dialogue, is notable for NCIS' takedown of the drug lab operating near the cover of an active volcano in which one member of the team is exposed to the drug. The episode's B-stories involve Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) reacting to another bombshell from her teenage son and Lucy's (Yasmine Al-Bustami) reaction to learning that Ernie (Jason Antoon) father has died, news he hasn't shared with the rest of the team.
