Citadel - The Human Enigma

This show is going to make conspiracy theorists so fucking horny. Citadel opens with the fall of the greatest spy organization the world never knew existed. Believed only a myth by the few who had ever heard of it, Citadel was a collective of spies from different nations creating their own organization in attempt to save the world from the evils of everyone, including the likes of governmental agencies and their choices to play god across the globe. Starting aboard a bullet train in the Italian Alps, we see a mission go horribly wrong for Citadel's top to agents whan a trap is sprung by an equally secret organization of evildoers calling themselves Manticore coordinating the deaths of other agents of Citadel across the globe.

Jumping eight years into the future, we jump back into the life of the amnesiac Mason Kane (Richard Madden) who has been living the better part of a decade unaware of his past while building a life with a wife (Ashleigh Cummings) and daughter (Caoilinn Springall). Searching into the abyss of his past brings him on the radar of Citadel's tech genius Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci) who offers a chance for the spy turned suburban dad to learn about his past, save the world from Manticore's latest plot which involves securing a stash of Citadel intelligence, and discover more about the woman (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) whose face from a forgotten lifetime continues to haunt his dreams.

"The Human Enigma" is a successful first episode in setting up the rules of the game while pointing out that there are few people you can trust in a shadowy world where the most powerful spy agencies are those that most people don't even know exist. Overall, it's a good episode with some really fun and stylish moments that does leave you wanting. While the second episode will get into what happened to Nadia (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), while better explaining Mason's amnesia, she's limited to the opening sequence aboard the train with this first episode more firmly centered around Madden, who for me comes off as a blander Sam Worthington.
