Arrow - Star City 2040

Arrow spends an entire episode in the future with "Star City 2040" as Mia (Katherine McNamara), William (Jack Moore), Connor Hawke (Joseph David-Jones), Zoe (Andrea Sixtos), and Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) rescue Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and race to stop Kevin Dale (Raj Paul) from blowing up Star City. "Star City 2040" features plenty of questionable old age makeup and future tech as the heroes are not only to storm the castle and rescue the princess but even win back an old ally to their side. Still, Dale has big plans for Star City and Archer (which looks to be the thread which will eventually tie events back to the show's current storyline).

Disconnected from the main storyline far more than the early flashbacks to Lian Yu, which always seemed to tie back into the present state of things in Star City, the future storyline has offered at least as many hits as misses over the season. Mia is the highlight here, kicking serious ass, but that leaves the rest of the group little to do other than some light hacking or schmoozing. The big win in the future doesn't feel quite like the victory it should, but working with the other heroes and recovering her mother does seem to help Mia find a role within the group. Offering a montage of Mia's life to open the episode, we see her grow up in seclusion with Felicity and Nyssa (Katrina Law), who train her to be a warrior. Although we see Oliver (Stephen Amell) present for his daughter's birth, the episode is quite fuzzy on exactly when, where, and how the Emerald Archer left his family.
