Hawaii Five-0 - Ai no i ka 'ape he mane'o no ko ka nuku

Pairing up Danny (Scott Caan) and McGarrett's (Alex O'Loughlin) for their own subplot of providing protection to Danny's former mother-in-law (Joan Collins) leaves the rest of Five-0 to investigate the person responsible for spiking a supply of steroids leading to murder. Given the amount of time focused on Danny and Steve waiting on the famous author, it's a bit surprising that the subplot's payoff turns out to be so weak. While Amanda Savage explains her boorish behavior to her former son-in-law, she never apologizes for it (nor does her explanation excuse her actions). The storyline allows Danny to act as her punching bag, a common role for the character, while McGarret receives only her charm (only infuriating Det. Williams all the more).

While Collins provides some laughs as a ego-driven version of her late sister, the action of the episode is devoted to the episode's other plot thread. Five-0's investigation leads Tani (Meaghan Rath) and Junior (Beulah Koale) to go undercover at a local gym hoping to find the dealer who supplied the tainted drugs that led one man to walk in font of a semi. When the dealer gets dosed as well, ending in a shoot-out with the police, Five-0 tracks the money to find the reason behind the steriod scheme, the bags of blood found in the victims' homes, and murder.
