Sherlock & Daughter - The Last Dance
With no word on if the characters will return for another season, Sherlock & Daughter comes to a close with an episode wrapping up most of the season's threads, although it does leave one dangling should the show get picked up for another season. The question of Amelia's (Blu Hunt) paternity is put to rest once and for all as Holmes admits his relationship to Amelia's mother.
The Red Thread will also be effectively pruned. As Holmes (David Thewlis) and Swan (Antonio Aakeel) take down Whitlock (Aidan McArdle), Amelia heads to the ball where her keen eye will come into play with her dealings with Dan Moriarty (Joe Klocek) who she leaves for dead, trapping in the hidden passages used for the assassination attempt Holmes will thwart, as well as confront Lady Violet Somerset (Fiona Glascott) who, through her own actions (and more quick thinking by Amelia) will meet a quick end.
While both Whitlock and Lady Violet claim to be the brains behind the Red Thread, Holmes makes a final deduction that the real brains behind the plot belong to the American Ambassador (Phillip P. Keene) with whom Holmes makes an arrangement. While agreeing not to have Dr. Watson (Seán Duggan) publish the sordid affair as one of his stories, the two men agree (now that the threat of war has been squashed) to a detente and agreement to protect each other's daughters.
Sherlock & Daughter closes on a satisfactory note with Amelia installed at Baker Street (although her parentage still as secret to all but a select few). Amelia being capable of murder is an interesting point to end on, something Holmes might deduce but chooses not to comment on. However, Dan Moriarty escaping the death trap Amelia left for him means a return would be possible if the show does return (although it would be interesting to see some shorter cases of the week rather than one large mystery to unravel next time around).
