Person of Interest - Dues Ex Machina

While Shaw (Sarah Shahi) races to back-up Root (Amy Acker) who readies her kamikaze run at Samaritan's secret facility, Peter Collier (Leslie Odom, Jr.) begins his trial against those who he holds responsible for The Machine and the government stealing the privacy of its citizens. Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Hersh (Boris McGiver) work frantically to find the courtroom from which Vigilance is broadcasting its own distorted version of justice and whose defendants include Control (Camryn Manheim) and Finch (Michael Emerson).

The season finale includes more flashbacks to Collier's recruitment and rise in Vigilance and the group's turn to more violent action. However, it's not until after Finch's testimony about the truth of The Machine's creation and the arrival of Greer's (John Nolan) men staging their rescue attempt that Collier learns a much harder truth than the one he's spent the last few years searching for - the truth about Vigilance and its true purpose as Decima's necessary villain allowing for Samaritan's ascendance.

With no way to stop Samaritan, the truth behind Root's action and the stolen seven servers which she and Shaw re-installed in one of "a hundred such facilities" housing the computer's brain is revealed. No longer able to cling to anonymity and hide, each sever will let one member of the team to hide in plain sight under carefully crafted fake identities allowing them time to survive, and hopefully find a way to eventually fight back. As to the battle of gods which is mentioned again, it will be interesting to see how Samaritan views The Machine - as enemy or something far more interesting?
