Supergirl - Girl of Steel

Supergirl's return to television introduces Morgan Edge (Adrian Pasdar) as a new ongoing threat to National City while a strictly-business Kara (Melissa Benoist) continues to struggle to deal with the emotional toll of losing Mon-El (Chris Wood) while fighting off a new terrorist known as Bloodsport and running away from her non-super-hero responsibilities. While Bloodsport, and his phantom submarine, provides the immediate threat, it's obvious Edge is going to be stepping into the role of the season's larger villain-behind-the-scenes this season.

Along with introducing us to Edge (likely laying the groundwork for Intergang), setting up Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) as the new owner of CatCo, and giving us a hyper-focused Girl of Steel whose statue unveiling ends in tears, the season premiere also recasts Erica Durance the role of Kara's mother Alura Zor-El for an opening dream sequence (possibly suggesting a large role for the character in some form this season?), and Odette Annable as a new super-powered inhabitant of National City whose origins remain a mystery (at least for now). The episode's B-story centers around small speedbumps for the upcoming wedding which, like Kara's internal crisis, will be solved before the episode's end.
