Pretty Little Liars – Through a Glass, Darkly

Opening with the funeral for Mona (Janel Parrish), whose body has still yet to be discovered over the past three months, Pretty Little Liars returns with Spencer (Troian Bellisario) still the number one suspect in the murder of Bethany Young. Realizing the best way to save Spencer is to tie Mona's murder back to Alison (Sasha Pieterse), helping the police connect the two killings, Aria (Lucy Hale) rallies the Liars to find Mona's missing proof (although she's ultimately responsible for losing a full laptop worth of secrets to A).

Desperation and news of Spencer's looming arrest agitates the Liars even further. Despite Caleb's (Tyler Blackburn) objections, Hanna (Ashley Benson) reaches out to creepy old Mrs. Grunwald (Meg Foster) for help and Emily (Shay Mitchell) goes so far as to convince Spencer to plant evidence to tie Alison to Mona's murder. Spencer and Emily's attempt to circumvent the law is a bust, but it does lead to a discovery of a hidden camera in the Vanderwaal home which, coupled with Jason (Drew Van Acker) retracting his alibi for his sister, gives Detective Tanner (Roma Maffia) a new suspect to pursue.

Other storylines include both Ezra (Ian Harding) and Aria attempting to reach out to a grieving Mike (Cody Allen Christian) who along with Hanna is the only one who actually liked Mona, and Emily struggling to say goodbye to the departing Paige (Lindsey Shaw). "Through a Glass, Darkly" ends with Alison in jail, Spencer cleared, and a moment of free of anxiety or dread for the Liars believing their long war against A is finally over. Or is it? The closing fireworks (and the fact that the show has been picked up for another two seasons) suggest otherwise.
