The Flash - The Trial of The Flash

While Central City is slowly being poisoned by a new meta-human who is unknowingly radiating nuclear radiation, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) stands trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe (Neil Sandilands) without being able to reveal the reasons behind his obsession with the man or the fact that DeVoe is alive in another man's body (Kendrick Sampson). Unwilling to reveal his identity as the Flash, and unable to present much of a defense against a perfect frame without revealing his secret, Barry is quickly found guilty and sentenced to life without parole in the same prison where his father spent decades for a murder he didn't commit.

While the outcome wasn't surprising, the quickness of the trial was unexpected (as I expected the question of Barry's innocence to be argued over for much of the season). With the Flash out of the way, DeVoe seems to have won (at least in the short-term). While I doubt that the show plans on keeping Barry in prison for long, the episode does raise questions. What happens to Central City? Will Barry sneak out of prison periodically to save the day when needed? Or will the team he helped create step-in to keep the city safe in his absence. And, if the later is true, how long will it be before someone makes the connection between Barry's confinement and the Flash's disappearance? Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) stepping in to stop Joe (Jesse L. Martin) from framing Marlize (Kim Engelbrecht) for her husband's death shows' how far the character has come but an Elongated Man seems a poor substitute for the Scarlet Speedster.
