Mistletoe Murders - Cold War

After spending a year away from investigating murders, and keeping a distance from Detective Sam Wilner (Peter Mooney) when their romance fizzled after not being able to explain her past, Christmas shop owner Emily Lane (Sarah Drew) gets dragged into a new whodunit involving the death of a teacher at Violet Wilner's (Sierra Marilyn Riley) high school where the lead suspect is the boy (Kolton Stewart) she's been tutoring all school year.

The first-half of the Season Two premiere featrues Emily stepping carefully around Sam and trying not to get involved (or attempt to explain to Violet the falling out she had with her father). Emily's past (some of which is shown in flashbacks) is used as a crutch to make her relationships with Sam and Violet far more complicated than necessary in typical romcom style.

Although there's plenty of snooping in the first hour, things pick up at the halfway point with Violet's beau being questioned by the police and Emily going into the high school as the new chess coach (replacing the murder victim). Eventually Sam and Violet come to an understanding (although he's far from poking his nose into her past), reaching a new status quo helped, in part, by Emily saving Violet from the killer in the two-parter's climax.
