The Mighty Nein - Mote of Possibility

Coming out of Critical Role, and with more than a passing resemblance to The Legend of Vox Machina (and taking place in that same world), the opening episode of The Mighty Nein begins bringing together a part of mismatched adventurers who will be called upon to save the world. The show kicks off with the theft of a religious artifact by magician assassins known as Volstrucker which raises the already tensions between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty to the brink of war.

With those events setting the stage, we begin to get various characters introduced which will be eventually weaved together starting with former wizard turned beggar Caleb Widogast (Liam O'Brien) who begins an unlikely partnership with the untrustworthy goblin Nott (Sam Riegel). Elsewhere, Beauregard Lionett (Marisha Ray), a monk of the Cobalt Soul, will stumble into part of the larger mystery about what was stolen and led to an explosion in time that wiped out an entire outpost.

Taking time to only introduce part of the larger cast, while also glimpsing with the villains of this world who seem to be actively pushing for war, allows us to get to know Caleb and Nott (without yet full understanding either's backstory) as well as see Beau hold her own in a fight (although, despite her skill and tenacity, not being strong enough to win it). The tease of Caleb and Nott's next stop should give us one or two more characters while slowly bringing together the band of heroes which will give the series its name.
