Watson - Lucky

In an episode that keeps several plates spinning simultaneously, "Lucky" features the return of Sherlock Holmes (Robert Carlyle) far sooner than I expected, but again only for a single episode. Spending a bit of time poking around Pittsburgh, Holmes stays with Watson (Morris Chestnut) and offers some advice on the doctor's latest case involving a man in a coma ward suffering from undiagnosed locked-in syndrome who has witnessed multiple murders by an angel of death over the years. Along with helping the patient, Watson and the team also work to prove there is someone killing end-of-life patients and identifying her before she murders again.

Holmes' return does see the renewal of his friendship with Watson, offering key advice leading to the killer's capture. However, it also leads to Mary (Rochelle Aytes) noting the distraction of her ex-husband, although she's not smart enough to guess the cause despite some rather explicit clues. As for Holmes, we also get a bit of insight into his brother Mycroft (Vincent Gale) whose financial ruin appears to be part of Sherlock's current plans. However, with Myrcoft in charge of Sherlock's holdings that also puts the clinic in danger creating a new enemy for Watson to battle.

We get a nice guest-appearance from Alisha-Marie Ahamed as a nurse more observant than most and a few scattered scenes with the rest of the team, notably those that involve Ingrid (Eve Harlow) who bonds with one of the Crofts over addiction and, desperate her better judgement, starts a relationship with another member of her sociopathic support group (Noah Mills) who does her a favor. As the show nears its winter break, we get the teasing multiple possible villain turns in Mycroft and Ingrid (and perhaps even Sherlock given Watson's cryptic note about where the best-laid plains tend to lead).
