Murder in a Small Town - Masterpiece

While the locals deal with the missing Sid (Aaron Douglas) and Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk) deals with blowback from her vote, Karl (Rossif Sutherland) reluctantly agrees to accompany Deputy Prosecuting Attorney General Lanni Soo (Jamie Chung) to interview serial killer Tommy Cummins (Noah Reid) who has agreed to reveal the locations of his missing victims but only to Karl. Of course the entire scenario is only a ploy for Cummins to escape and attempt to make Lanni his latest victim.

The structure of the episode is unusual putting a heavy focus on Cummins and playing up his serial killer-ness. The recovery of Sid is surprisingly easy, although the trauma of Laila's (Bethany Brown) shooting appears to be sticking around (including driving a wedge between the officer and her increasingly superficial girlfriend). Cassandra's guilt by the end of the episode is palpable, but she's not the only one desperate to see the budget approved as we learn the Mayor's (Marcia Gay Harden) family could potentially lose everything (as her family's attempt to profit on her shenanigans only works if the money starts flowing immediately).
