The Mighty Nein - Many Gifts
Arriving at Zadash, the Nein accept a quest from the Gentleman (Nathan Fillion) to retrieve a lost artifact in exchange for a new protection amulet to keep Caleb (Liam O'Brien) hidden from the Volstrucker. Along with offering an adventure involving retrieving the Arcane Compass from the boobytrapped hoard of the legendary pirate mercenary Nydas Okiro, the encounter in the Gentleman's lair also foreshadows secrets of Molly's (Taliesin Jaffe) forgotten past and a ritual that led to both his tattoos and his missing memories.
The treasure hunt in the lost mine, and the various puzzles and challenges the group must make in order to find the treasure (and survive long enough to escape alive) are the highlight of the episode. We also get Fjord (Travis Willingham) following the voice in his head (although not far enough to abandon his friends).
In the palace, Vess (T'Nia Miller) and the Cobalt Soul, empowered by the information provided by Beau (Marisha Ray), make a move against Trent Ikithon (Mark Strong), however his incarceration is short-lived as he is able to prove how the stolen artifact ensure victory for the kingdom. The episode is also notable for its opening segment which offers us the longest look by far at the Orphanmaker (Ashley Johnson) creating a bloody swath on her way to the mages' assembly. We also catch a glimpse of her past in a short flashback involving lost love and a shadowy presence that pushes her onward.
