The Mighty Nein - Who Will You Be? / The Fletching & Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities
The second and third episodes of The Mighty Nein continue to introduce most of the remaining core charactrs and put them on a path that will converge at the Fletching & Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities. We meet the young sailor Fjord Stone (Travis Willingham) whose ship and entire crew are killed by a sea monser. Brought back to life by something deep underwater with glowing eyes, Fjord finds himself alive, on shore, and with a set of new magical sword and powers to explore. He won't be the last character we're introduced to touched by some unknown powerful force.
Setting out with a bit more confidence, or at least faking it until he can make it, Fjord's journey takes him to the city of Nicodranas where the precocious Jester (Laura Bailey) is causing all kinds of pranks and chaos with the help of her own powers bestowed to her by the unseen Traveler. After her latest troublemaking, her mother beseechees Fjord to get her out of the city and see her safely to Zadash. Their path, however, is fated to pass through the Fletching & Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities as well.
As for the characters we've already seen, Beauregard Lionett (Marisha Ray) is sent to the carnival in search of information, and Caleb (Liam O'Brien) and Nott (Sam Riegel) head there as well searching a rare spell component that is part of the carnival's new main attraction involving a devil toad and the young woman who controls it through song and the rare beetle which Cableb covets.
Our final main character is introduced as a member of the carnival. Mollymauk Tealeaf (Taliesin Jaffe) a fortune teller with a shadowy unremembered past tied to the number of odd tattoos covering his body. We get to see his life at the carnival, keeping his cool while dealing with problems and giving out fortunes (a power provided to him by another unknown force), at least until the other characters arrive creating the perfect storm of chaos that leaves Molly's world destroyed and all of our characters captured and imprisoned. By the end of the third episode the group will all know, but certainly not all like, each other. However, in the following aptly-titled episode, "The Mighty Nein" will finally be formed.
